During the month of languages, the century-old public library in Chittagong’s Laldighi Par was renamed after Ekush’s first poem poet and language warrior Mahbub ul Alam Chowdhury.
Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury unveiled the new plaque of this library named ‘Mahbub Ul Alam Chowdhury Chittagong City Corporation Public Library’ on Wednesday afternoon.
He said, “From the language movement to the freedom movement, the brave children of Chittagong have played a brave role in every field Various structures will be constructed and named in Chittagong to commemorate their role forever
“Poet Mahbub ul Alam Chowdhury organized the language movement in Chittagong. When the young student leaders led by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were fighting and shedding blood to demand Bengali as the state language, he composed his first poem of twenty-one. I am proud to name this library after him.”
