Bangladesh Head Coach: Chandika Hathurusingha is finally returning as the head coach of Bangladesh. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan Papon confirmed the appointment of Hathuru as the head coach on Tuesday evening. However, the BCB wants to appoint a person as an assistant coach along with head coach Hathuru.
It is learned that several people have expressed interest in working as an assistant to Hathuru. BCB is already in talks with them. The board has even completed the work of making a short list of those coaches. The BCB president confirmed that those interested coaches will set foot in Bangladesh for interviews at the end of February.
In this regard, Nazmul Hasan Papon said, “We will also appoint an assistant coach, there are five people in this list. Of these, there are 3 people from the subcontinent. They will come to the country by the 25th and give interviews.
Chandika Hathurusingha has been appointed as the head coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team. BCB has a two-year contract with him. More importantly, in all three formats.
Russell Domingo was the head coach before Hathuru. This South African was not kept in the end with the T20 team. Sreedharan Sriram of India has worked as the technical consultant of the team in the last Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. There were also rumors that BCB’s contract with him was being extended. Hathurusingha was also in charge of Bangladesh. In the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup, the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy, Bangladesh lost the series to South Africa, India, and Pakistan at home.

Hathurusingha took charge of Bangladesh in June 2014 from New South Wales. He resigned abruptly in October 2017. The former all-rounder, who played 26 Tests and 35 ODIs for Sri Lanka, took over as the head coach of his country a few days after bangladesh’s departure. The end wasn’t good there either. He was sacked in 2019. In 2020, he returned to New South Wales cricket.
