After losing the Zilla Parishad elections, he announced himself as the ‘presidential election’ candidate in a live video broadcast from the district central Shaheed Minar on October 18. Two days later, the police arrested him in a case.
Stating that he is now on bail, Jagdish said, “I will try to get the nomination form. I have proponents, no problem. There was a case, that is also not a problem. Now let’s see if I can get the form for the president.”
Jagadish, son of deceased Kali Charan Barua of East Barua neighborhood adjacent to BGB camp in Cox’s Bazar, formed ‘Bangladesh Mangal Party’ in 2012. He introduced himself as the chairman of the said group. Jagdish has already participated as a candidate in Upazila Parishad, Municipal and National Assembly elections.
The Election Commission has announced the schedule of the twenty-second presidential election of Bangladesh, keeping the polling day on February 19.
As per the announced schedule, interested candidates can submit their nomination papers on February 12 from 10 am to 4 pm. After February 13 verification, nomination papers can be withdrawn till February 14 at 4 pm.
