3 executive magistrates are coming to Dhaka to ‘prevent’ air pollution

Dhaka’s air was the worst in Swiss air monitoring agency IQAir’s city-based Air Quality Index (AQI) on January 22, with a score of 271, the level of ‘very unhealthy and hazardous’.

Such a situation prevailed for several days.

According to the ministry, the minister directed the director general of the environment directorate in a meeting to conduct a special operation from Wednesday to prevent air pollution. Along with that, he directed the concerned project manager to take action to stop the hydraulic horn and noise pollution.

Shahab Uddin said, “From tomorrow (Wednesday) through the three executive magistrates currently working in the Department of Environment, mobile courts will be conducted in the city against air polluting companies and vehicles. Requests should be made to the Public Administration Ministry for the urgent appointment of more Executive Magistrates and the Public Security Department to send the required number of law enforcement officers to increase the number and scope of operations.”

The notification also informed that the minister will take part in campaigns if necessary to create awareness about air pollution and noise pollution.
